Grey hairs actually come knocking at age 25. No fun!

When I found myself at age 25, the whole excitement of adulthood dropped. I started having responsibilities – I became an aunt of one and two other nieces have just been added to the family picture.

I love life at age 25.

What? I hate it! This is where all consciousness dawns on you. At age 25, you have experiences in every aspect of life. They say grey hairs appearing are usually signs of aging and ut is also significant for wisdom in some societies. Personally, I think grey hairs and age 25 are synonymous.

Anytime I see grey hairs, I usually wonder how I would feel like when I have my first grey hair at an advanced age. I can’t figure out how my reactions would be when grey hairs come knocking – would I cry? Would I have regrets? Would I get wrinkles? This last question scares me.

When I found myself at age 25

The whole excitement of adulthood dropped. I started having responsibilities – I became an aunt of one and two other nieces have just been added to the family picture.

I had just concluded my National Youth Service Corps program and I wasn’t receiving any monthly stipend any longer. If you have gone through this process, you would agree with me that the reality of not expecting anything at the end of the next month makes you want to re-enroll for the course.

“Are you sure we won’t we won’t go for NYSC a second time?” Mercy jokingly asks. We both laughed but the reality of that joke never left our minds.

At age 25, you are aware of your surroundings.

I find myself scrolling through a political thread on Twitter. My travels back most times to times when I cried bitterly the moment my dad changes the TV station to watch the news. “My dad is just being wicked. How can he be watching the news while an interesting cartoon like Walt Disney’s Cinderella is wasting away?” I had cried to Amanda one afternoon.

Remembering that now, I laugh but deep down I want to go back to that time! I am literally crying right now. Childhood was so fun. Now, I have to watch the news to know if it’s okay to leave my house tomorrow. Our parents used to do these things for us and now, I even watch the weather report.

At age 25, relationships start looking like exams

Study your partner; know your partner; be serious with your partner; be committed to your partner; be… When did my boyfriend become my partner? I thought we were supposed to be going on movie dates and kissing. When did we get so serious?

I’m very sure I’m not alone on this one. Mary, 26, married with two kids feels the same way. “Sometimes, when my daughter Emily cries and screams for candy, I just want to run out of there and ask my mummy for candy as well!” she cries. Why do I feel grey hairs will come faster when you are married with kids.

“Who are these kids calling me uncle. I want my mummy!”

At age 25, you start feeling old.

“Who are these kids calling me uncle. I want my mummy!” Peter uploaded on his WhatsApp status on Christmas day last year. I can’t help but wonder if we were all taken through a time travel to this future to understand what our parents were going through to take care of us. If that’s the case, then, thank you. I think we have learned enough. Please, take us back… Please!

At age 25, you become a life coach – paid or not.

I was listening to Lucas Graham’s “7 years” one morning and I found myself posting “life has stages. Each stage comes with its own responsibilities.” When did I become a motivational speaker?

Now, look at me. I think I’m writing like a motivational speaker already. Oh well, I guess I will just embrace this age and wait for when my grey hairs will reveal themselves.
