This week, the creative space jostled with a lot of substantial events and happenings. The highlight of these events for me was the Talku Talku How-To Webinar I attended on August 25.
It was impactful – Mr. Olumayowa Victor Ogunsola, did thorough justice to the topic : How To Make Your Creative Startup Thrive Amidst Financial Crisis. Dear creative, did you attend the webinar? 1. M.I Abaga Finally Released His New Studio Album, “The Guy.”
On August 19, M.I Abaga released his new studio album, “The Guy.” The album is his first full-length release since 2018. It comprises 12 songs, solos, and collaborations with amazing features from Olamide, Phyno, Wande Coal, The Cavemen, Duncan Mighty, Bnxn, Ossi Grace, Chillz, and US hip hop icon Nas. The rapper also revealed that the album is set to disclose his true personality via sober reflection on his musical journey thus far.
2. Netflix Creative Equity Scholarships 2022 For Nigeria, West & Central Africa Is Now Open
The Netflix Creative Equity Scholarships (CESF) is a grant open to creative students of partner higher educational institutions in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, and Gabon. It offers creatives from West and Central African countries full scholarships to obtain official qualifications and training. Applicants must be enrolled in television and film-related courses in partner institutions. However, applicants in their third year and final year will be prioritized. Hurry now and apply; the application closes on September 4.


3. FG Bans The Use Of Foreign Models, Voice-Over Artists In Nigerian Adverts
It is an interesting time to be a Nigerian model or voice-over artist. On August 22, The federal government banned the use of foreign models and voice-over artists for advertisements in Nigeria. According to Olalekan Fadolapo, director-general of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON the ban is a strategic step to promote local content and talents while increasing economic growth. The new policy will take effect on October 1, 2022.
4. Maiden Edo Film Festival, Receives 1,551 Movie Entries From 94 Countries
At a press conference to unveil the logo of the Maiden Edo Film festival at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, on August 24, The Managing Director of Edo State Skill Development Agency (ESSDA), Ms. Ukinebo Dare, revealed that 94 countries are expected to be present at the festival slated for September 1st to 4th. More so, a total of 1,551 movie entries have been received from these countries.


5. Chimamanda Adichie Raises N3.2m For Female Footballers At NBA Conference
Following her power speech at the opening ceremony of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos, Chimamanda Adichie raised over N3 million for the NBA female football team. This would come after she sheds light on the need for transparency. Before the donations were made, the winning NBA female football team were entitled to only the sum of N200,000 while their male counterparts were to be gifted N500,000.
6. Don Jazzy Signs New Artist Bayanni to Mavin Record Label
Mavin Records has signed Bayanni as the latest addition to the record label.The news was announced across Mavins record social media platforms and it’s boss, Don Jazzy’s social media handles on August 23. According to Don Jazzy, Bayanni has gone through a lot of defining moments and he is also ready. Don jazzy also shared a lab themed introduction video of himself, Bayanni and famous skit makers Mr. Funny, also known as Oga Sabinus and Brain Jotter.
