Do the movies we watch reflect on your personality?

How do you enjoy your movies? Do they reflect you as a person or are you just a movie lover?
movies we watch

The movies we watch, in a way, shape our personalities. Are you the horror movie lover, the adventure lover, the fairytale lover, the comic movie lover, or a sci-fi lover? For me, I like a little of everything.

I grew up being a scared child – I watched so many scary movies. It was hardly my fault as I didn’t bring them home. My siblings would go out to rent movies, and, being a child, I would be excited to watch. I wouldn’t know, at first, that it was a scary movie until the scary scenes played out. The movies would get me so scared that I would look for the closest wall to hide my back in case the vicious character springs up from behind me.

Scary movies have the best suspense, so you can’t help watching till the very end. Usually, what keeps me glued to the end is the hope that the villain dies. That way, I can be satisfied with the thought that it’s not coming after me later.

That trick never worked – I still got scared to use the bathroom, stay in a dark room, walk down dark hallways, or stay close to old houses. I would get the scary thought that a boogyman was right behind me or somewhere in the dark, waiting to creep up. To be honest, I still have those scares, but they are no longer as potent.

Scary movies do the worst to me!

However, I have people who I consider amazingly abnormal. They watch scary movies, and they tell you it’s not that scary.

Me: Are you sure you watched the same movie?

Them: Of course, I did. The villain did not bite his face well. There’s a way they do it to make it very scary…blah blah blah.

Sorry, but I’m lost there – if I watched that scene with my eyes closed, I won’t watch it in your imaginations. How can you watch that with so much lacklustre? Well, these people make up the dauntless personalities for me – what can’t scare them, can’t bully them.

There’s also a set of people who love action movies a lot. I watched John Wick, and I just couldn’t stay focused. Why would you stab a person’s eye or imagine the worst ways to kill a person with weapons. Yet, these persons would settle down and analyse this movie, and tell you where the fight was not so real. I mean…are you expecting it to be real? The fight is frightening enough for me. I see these people as critics.

More so, there are adventure lovers. I love adventure movies, so long as scary scenes are not inputted. Don’t get me wrong. Horror movies are great, as they have great suspense and this gets so much interest. I see people who love adventure as fun lovers.

There are also superhero enthusiasts. They just love to see things play out of human abilities. They claim to be the smartest kinds, but I see them more as imaginative people. I am waiting for our DIY parrot to come after me for this though.

I love movies about love, but I prefer it mixed with comedy. Love and comedy go together – they keep you glued to your screen. Another set of movies I love are supernatural movies. Myths about dragons, greek movies, and others that have to do with the supernatural. The flaw is that I concentrate too much on movies, and I imagine things too much.

Wrapping this up, I hope you were able to pinpoint your personality traits that go with the kind of movies you love. Correct me if I’m wrong.
